Britons claim having visited non-existing ancient wonders

A British survey has found one in eight people claiming to have visited ancient wonders of the world that turned non-existent centuries ago!

Of the 2,500 people surveyed by Hotels.com, 13 percent said to have seen the Colossus of Rhodes, a statue that was destroyed in 226 BC, the Daily Mail reported.

Five percent claimed to have been to the temple of Artemis in Turkey and three percent said they had seen the statue of Zeus at Olympia, Greece.

In reality, Zeus had been destroyed in the 5th Century and Artemis was torched in the 3rd Century.

Conducted by Hotels.com, the survey was meant to ask people about which British landmarks should be included in the 'Ancient Seven Wonders of Britain'

Kate Hopcraft, of Hotels.com, said she was surprised 24 percent of the Britons claim to have visited monuments wiped off the earth hundreds of years ago.

She said: "Our research shows Brits are rather confused about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World."
