TASHKENT, Uzbekistan: Uzbek authorities said a powerful explosion on September 28 at a warehouse near Tashkent's airport killed one person and injured 162.
The explosion also caused a fire and shattered windows in apartment blocks nearby, authorities added.
In a statement, the health ministry said a teenage boy died after a window frame fell on him, and 24 people were hospitalized but had no severe injuries, while 138 were treated for wounds.
The city's international airport said that flights were operating as usual.
The emergencies ministry said that a special laboratory had been established at the scene of the explosion to investigate.
"As a result of the quick actions of emergencies ministry employees, the area of the fire is being reduced. The situation is completely under control," it said on Telegram.
In a social media post, Uzbek outlet Daryo said 16 fire and rescue crews were sent to fight the fire at one of the warehouses in the city's Sergeli district near the airport.
